The Art of Combat

So, the next step in developing my skills is joining up with the SCA here in Arizona.  Luckily the combat is reality based.  Nothing below the knee and no wrist shots, which happen of course, but not targeted.  This means I can actively try out new things against individuals and against groups.  Should be fun.

Well, it has been a long time

It has been a long time since I have posted anything here, but I have decided to make this a more frequent thing.  From Oct of 2009 to July of 2011, my life was a weird ride, having been unemployeed with a highly specialized IT skill, finding a job that paid what I was worth was difficult.

During that time I spent a lot of time contemplating the universe, and teaching at a self defense school.  We focused on close quarters combat oriented principles, relying on active sparring and full-contact fear management classes to refine our understanding of the confrontation and subsequent physical engagement.

During that time I spent some cycles observing people, my family, strangers, friends, to see how they addressed their surroundings, which is to say almost not at all.  As a sheepdog, constantly searching for the wolf, that is especially painful to deal with.

Hopefully, I find some ways to work through it.
